Tech Prep leads from high school to technical training, college degrees, and high-demand careers.

Tech Prep is intended to give high school students an early start on a college Technical program.  High school juniors or seniors may enroll in approved Tech Prep courses taught by instructors at their high schools, which allows them the opportunity to earn North Idaho College Technical credit and move from high school to NIC without having to repeat technical courses.

Tech Prep Savings

A total of 437 high school students earned 1,766 North Idaho College credits through Tech Prep during the 2008-2009 academic year. Without the discounted $10 per credit Tech Prep students pay, those 437 students would have paid a total of $247,240 for courses taken on campus, compared to $17,660 for Tech Prep transcription fees. That’s a savings of $229,580

College Ready?

Find out if remedial college classes are in your future. High school juniors may take the Compass test to identify strengths and weaknesses. Make the most out of your high school career and don't waste time in college taking high school-level classes that don't count toward your program major. Use your Compass test results when planning your senior schedule so you can work on your skills in high school while your classes are free. Review the sample items to the right and take the Compass test for FREE. See your counselor for more details.
