Region I Tech Prep Consortium
What is Tech Prep? High school Professional Technical courses that are determined to be an equivalent to Professional Technical courses at North Idaho College.
Tech Prep prepares students for high-skill technical occupations and allows for either direct entry into the workplace or a continuation of study that can lead to a Technical Certificate, Applied Associate degree or Baccalaureate degree.
Tech Prep gives you a head start on earning credits required for college graduation while eliminating unnecessary repetition of courses. By dual enrolling through Tech Prep, you will earn college credits at a significant savings.
Tech Prep courses are hands-on, with high standards that emphasize applied academics, critical thinking, and problem solving related to the real world.
Philosophy
The primary purpose of the Consortium is to provide a mechanism through which Tech Prep will be developed and promoted within the Region I in support of local School District students and in accordance with federal statutes. Through this collaborative effort students benefit from the sharing of information, resources, and planning expertise; and by this process, the Consortium makes an important contribution to the educational system in Region I as it relates to the changing work place needs of the next decade.
Goals
The overriding goal of the Consortium is to provide collaborative management for the effective utilization of funds to promote and develop Tech Prep in Region I of the State of Idaho. The Consortium confronts one of the states most critical education problems; preparing an able work force for the technological world ahead. The intent of the consortium is to:
- Promote and support linkages between secondary and post-secondary professional-technical education programs.
- Improve academic integration.
- Facilitate the transition to baccalaureate degree programs.
- Develop and support local and statewide articulation agreements.
