Testing Center
Faculty Guidelines
The Testing Center provides proctored testing support for course make-up tests and Internet course testing. Due to limited space and personnel, entire class testing cannot be administered at this time. If you have a special need please contact Gary Coffman in Advising Services, but first check to see if the Testing Center can accommodate it.
Basic procedures for every test:
- The Students must show photo ID.
- Personal belongings are not permitted in the testing rooms, and only items listed on the test tracking form will be allowed.
- Scratch paper is provided by the Testing Center and when used will accompany the returned test.
- Students should be familiarized with the Testing Center hours.
Calculator Policy
Calculators are permitted only when listed in the allowed items. If a graphing calculator is permitted it must be noted on the tracking form. We assume simple or scientific calculators unless otherwise specified.
Paper Tests
Tests may be dropped off at the Testing Center at any time during office hours, left in the drop box by the front door during off hours or sent through campus mail to Timber Hall (TMB). Tests can be faxed to 208-676-7206 or emailed to testing_center@nic.edu.
Please fill out a Tracking Form for each test indicating the following information:
- Your name
- Student’s name
- Instructions for the test, i.e. what is allowed to be used
- Desired method of return
- Time restrictions (please enter a maximum time limit)
- Deadline for completing the test.
If you need a form, just call or email and request one or download the Tracking Form.
- Please use our form rather than creating your own.
- If a student has CEA accommodations and needs the test taped, please send it to CEA first, with the tracking form attached. They will tape the test and send it to us. Please allow extra time for handling. The Testing Center staff is not responsible for knowing individual student’s CEA accommodations and will follow the instructions on the tracking form.
- Reduced Distraction testing will be provided, but we cannot guarantee any student a private room. We will do what we can for as long as possible, especially for students with accommodations, but if a student requires guaranteed isolation they must make other arrangements.
- After an exam deadline has passed or the semester has ended and there are still exams in your file, you will be contacted for instructions on what to do with them.
Method of Returning Tests
Test Pick Up
You may pick up completed or expired tests anytime during office hours.
Campus Mail
We will return tests by campus mail to the building designated on the form.
Distance Ed Tests
Arranging for WebCT Online Class Tests:
Please contact the Testing Center. Availability is limited when specialized testing occurs and, as always, we have many instructors using the center. Please consult our schedule to make sure that test deadlines fall on days the Testing Center is open and stagger testing. to avoid scheduling overloads.
Instructors wishing to create a new WebCT site must contact their department chair.
Please encourage your students to make an appointment with the Testing Center for any exam. Walk-ins are allowed but appointments will be given first consideration.
The Testing Center extends an open invitation to visit at any time for a tour of our facilities. Hope to see you soon.
