Flexible Learning Center
McLain Hall, Room 104

Overview

The Flexible Learning Center (FLC), part of the Computer Applications and Office Technology (CAOT) department, is a computer classroom offering an individualized instructional approach for learning computer applications and transcription courses in a self-paced format and the individual attention of skilled instructors. The courses are designed to help students develop speed and accuracy as well as job-level proficiency. Students can work at their own pace to complete assigned work and tests within the semester. Work can be completed in the FLC during various hours of the day and evening or the work can be completed at home, but testing must take place in the FLC. Students are responsible for completing work independently but with instructional help available when needed!

What are Flexible Learning Courses?Trouble viewing PDFs?

The Flexible Learning Courses are an educational alternative designed for students who can master course material without traditional classroom instruction. These flexible 1-credit modular courses are designed to allow students greater control over their learning schedules. Students will be able to progress at the rate of their capabilities and other time commitments. As a general guideline, a 1-credit college-level course requires up to 45 hours to complete including outside reading and homework. The number of hours required to complete a 1-credit module in the FLC will vary depending on each individual student’s prior knowledge and abilities. Successful completion of each course awards college credit, so a student can apply the credits earned towards a degree or certificate.

Please Note:

  • FLC courses are based on hardware and software that uses the Windows operating system.
  • We are currently teaching Office 2010 in our FLC computer applications courses.
  • If you have a Macintosh and are enrolled in any of these courses, see an instructor for compatibility issues:
