Flexibility in Attendance or Extended time for Assignments as an Accommodation

This accommodation is to address inequality for students who cannot attend classes consistently on campus due to their disability.  Those students are at times not able to successfully complete classes of their disability.  Students should not be restricted to Internet courses only due to issues directly related to their disability.  It is however an option.

Students w/disAbilities may request Flexibility in Attendance when issues directly related to their disability results in absences from class.  They may also request to have extensions on assignments (as would occur in an internet course).

The student must have documentation verifying that their disability will interfere with their ability to consistently attend class because of an exacerbation of symptomatology.

Students are asked to keep CEA aware regarding issues they may have with absences on a continuing basis in order that CEA can better support them. Missing class or being late on assignments because of other reasons such as other activities, or athletic events not related to their disability are NOT included in this accommodation.

Classroom attendance policies should be adjusted in such a way that those absences that are because of the student's disability are excused.  The student may, request notes from a peer, ask for information, turn in assignments and make up tests etc.
