Bike Shop

Does your bike need some TLC? Have a question or need some resources? We have you covered!

Thanks to a grant from the NIC Foundation in 2015, the NIC Bike Lab located in the McLain Hall Outdoor Center has professional-quality tools that you might find in the nicest bike shops out there. We are able to offer bike programming and services at little or no cost to NIC students, employees, and the community.

Our staff will help you prepare for your next cycling adventure, tell you about the biking opportunities we offer, and provide you with information about the many bike trails and routes throughout the Coeur d’Alene area.

We focus on student success and community engagement, so we guide you through repairs and tuning, rather than fix your bike for you. If you are looking for a shop that offers repair services, check out a couple local bike shops in the area:

Our dynamic schedule can sometimes take us out of the office. Please give us a call at (208) 769-7809 or swing by to set up an appointment before bringing your bike in for a big project. If you’re just looking for some air in the tires, swing on by.

Bike Share

Bikes are an awesome way to explore campus and get from place to place. Our bike share bikes are hard to miss – they’re the ugliest bikes on the rack. Spray painted orange, they are good enough to get you around campus, out for a sunny pedal, or to that distant parking lot.

It’s completely free of charge. All we ask is that you stay on campus and be courteous to others while riding.

If you notice any of the bikes are in need of some love (repairs) please give us a call at (208) 769-7809 or wheel it over to Outdoor Pursuits.

Bike Education

Is bike maintenance on your bucket list this year? Interested in learning the parts, tools, and skills that go into maintaining your bike?

Our maintenance classes are designed for the enthusiast or weekend warrior:

ABCs of Bike Maintenance
One-hour clinics that teach basic bike maintenance. The ABCs, Air (tires, tubes), Brakes, and Chain (all parts of the drive train) focus on a specific part or system of the bike. Our head bike guru, Terry, breaks down the pieces of the bike into understandable terms to help the first timer better understand the bike. These clinics provide a gateway to feeling self-sufficient when minor bike issues arise.

Our course schedule is available on CardinalSync, or you can give us a call for the details. Is life too busy to make it to our classes, no sweat – we can set up an appointment to teach any of the ABCs throughout the year.

Bicycle Mechanic Basics
This course offers insight into what our area bike shops are looking for in and entry-level bike mechanic. It’s designed to build a foundation of technical and personal skills necessary to land a job in a bicycle shop. The class is five weeks long and meets once a week. Offered each Spring – sign up through the Workforce Training Center.
