Financial Aid

Welcome to North Idaho College. Our office is here to help you with your financial aid needs!

At North Idaho College, financial aid consists of scholarships, grants, loans, work-study and grants-in-aid. The purpose of these aid types is to assist students who would be unable to attend college without this aid. The NIC Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting students in paying for their education while assuming as little debt as possible. As a result, unsubsidized loans are discouraged, and non-debt-related types of aid are leveraged whenever possible.

Apply for Financial Aid

The NIC Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting students in paying for their education while assuming as little debt as possible. Follow the steps below to apply for financial aid and gain access to the various types of federal student aid available.

The Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) is a username and password combination you use to log in to the U.S. Department of Education online systems. Create your FSA ID at StudentAid.gov.

You need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study and loans. Complete your FAFSA at StudentAid.gov

Submit your FAFSA earlier than ever before: You are now able to complete and submit your FAFSA as early as Oct. 1.

In order to submit the FAFSA earlier, you will report income from an earlier tax year, called “Prior-Prior Year.” Applicants will go backward by two years and use 2020 income information for 2022-2023 and 2021 income information for 2023-2024.

School Year NIC Semesters FAFSA Year Tax Year Used

Your Student Aid Report (SAR) is a document that gives you basic information about your eligibility for federal financial aid. It’s important to have an accurate SAR since your financial aid awards are based on the information listed on your report. Review your SAR at StudentAid.gov.

Once you have been awarded federal student loans, you will need to secure the loans.

1. Accept the loan on your MyNIC Self-Service.

2. Complete Federal Student Loan Entrance Counseling at StudentAid.gov.

3. Complete a Federal Student Loan Promissory Note at StudentAid.gov.
