Laptop Lending

Availability

Through a generous grant from the North Idaho College Foundation, six laptops are available to check out by NIC students at the Molstead Library Check-Out/Reserve Desk. The laptops are primarily for student use, although faculty and staff may borrow them if student demand is low. Anyone wishing to borrow a laptop must have their
Cardinal Card, a library account in good standing, and must read, agree to, and sign a Laptop Loan Program Liability Agreement each semester.

Laptop Hardware & Software

Laptops are equipped with Wi-Fi and commonly used software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.  For assistance in connecting to NIC's Wi-Fi network or other computer-related issues, please contact the IT Help Desk.

Use Policy

Because each laptop is protected by Deep Freeze software, which restores a computer back to its original state on restart,  your files should be carefully stored on a USB drive or other medium after each use and prior to the return of the laptop. The Library assumes no responsibility for files stored on the hard drive or the recovery of files accidentally left on the hard drive after the laptop has been returned.

Printing

Printing directly from the laptops is currently not available. Your files can be stored on a USB drive, and then accessed and printed through a library workstation located in the Molstead Library. Files can also sent as attachments to any location through your email account.

Loan Period

Laptops may be checked out at the Check-Out/Reserve Desk and taken from the library for up to four hours, and may be renewed once, in person, accompanied by all pieces.

Fines & Replacement

Overdue fees will be charged at $3.00 per hour (or partial hour) starting at the time due. The maximum fee charged for each 24-hour period will be $30.00. In the event that a laptop is returned late due to what the patron feels are extenuating circumstances, the patron will be asked to submit a detailed explanation addressed to the Circulation Department through the Contact Us form on the library website. The explanation will be reviewed by the Circulation Supervisor, who may reduce or waive overdue fees. A second violation of the laptop overdue policy may result in the assessment of applicable fines as listed in the overdue policy, and/or suspension of laptop borrowing privileges through the end of the current semester.

A charge of $30.00 will be assessed for each lost battery, power adapter, or carrying case. Damage charges will be assessed on the actual repair/replacement cost, up to the cost of replacement for lost/stolen laptops, which is $800.00 as shown on the Laptop Loan Program Liability Agreement.
