Purpose

To provide financial assistance for college to Native American high school seniors interested in majoring in selected fields.

Eligibility

This program is open to:

  • enrolled members of U.S. federally-recognized American Indian tribes
  • Alaska Native groups
  • other students who can document one-fourth degree federally-recognized Indian blood.
  • They must be nominated by a school official.  Nominees must be planning to enter a 4-year college or university to work fully time on a professional, teaching, social services, high technology, or business degree. 
  • They must be able to demonstrate financial need, academic achievement (GPA of 3.0 or higher), and leadership in school, civic, and extracurricular activities. 

Along with their application, they must submit a 500-word essay on their most outstanding intellectual endeavor.

Financial data

Stipends are $20,000 or $2,000 per year

Duration 

1 year for $20,000 awards; 4 years for the $2,000 awards
