To provide financial assistance to Alaska Natives with ties to the Calista region who are interested in working on an undergraduate or graduate degree.
This program is open to Alaska Native shareholders and lineal descendants of Alaska Native shareholders with ties to the Calista region. Applicants must be at least a high school graduate or have earned a GED and be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Along with their application, they must submit an essay (up to 500 words) on their educational and career goals. Financial need is considered in the selection process.
The amount awarded depends upon the recipient's GPA. Recipients with a FPA of 2.0 to 2.49 are awarded $400 per semester, recipients with a GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 are awarded $750 per semester, and recipients with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are awarded $1,000 per semester. The funds are paid in 2 equal installments; the second semester check is not issued until grades from the previous semester's work are received.
