Purpose
To provide financial assistance to residents of Hawaii of native ancestry who are interested in working on an undergraduate or graduate degree at a school in any state.
Eligibility
This program is open to residents of Hawaii who are Hawaiian ancestry and enrolled as full-time juniors, seniors, or graduate students at a college or university in any states. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need and academic achievement (GPA of 2.7 or higher).
Along with their application, they must submit:
- an essay indicating their reasons for attending college
- their planned course of study
- their career goals
- and how they plan to use their knowledge to serve the needs of the Native Hawaiian community.
Financial data
The amounts of the awards depend on the availability of funds and the need of the recipient; recently, stipends averaged at $1,166.
