Purpose 

To provide financial assistance to members of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation (OBSN) who are interested in attending college in any state.

Eligibility 

This program is open to enrolled OBSN members who are graduating high school seniors or current college undergraduates. Applications must be enrolled or planning to enroll full time an a 2- or 4- year college or university in any state.

Applicants must submit a 1-page essay on the topic

 

        • "How can American Indians live in the modern world without losing their cultural identity?"

 

They may also submit a brief statement of any financial hardships they are facing.

Selection is based on

 

        • academic achievement
        •  American Indian activities
        • extracurricular activities
        • volunteer service and community involvement
        • awards and honors
        • references
        • and the essay.

A stipend is awarded (amount not specified).

Duration 

1 year.

1 or more each year.

Deadline 

March of each year.
