Purpose

To provide financial assistance to high school senior citizens of the Cherokee Nation who are planning to attend college in an state and who reside outside the tribal jurisdictional boundaries.

Eligibility

This program is open to citizens of the Cherokee Nation who are graduating from high schools outside the jurisdictional are of the tribe.  Applicants must be planning to enroll at a college, university, or vocational/technical school in any state.  Selection is based on GPA, ACT score, cultrual and community activities, personal academic goals, commitment to work with Cherokee people in the future, and financial need.

Financial Data

The stipend is $1,000 per semester ($2,000 per year).

Duration

1 year.  Renewal for the second semester requires the recipient to earn a GPA of 2.5 or higher int he first semester.
