Purpose
To provide financial assistance to undergraduate students, especially those of Hawaiian descent, prepraing for a career in music.
Eligibility
This program is open to undergraduate students working on a degree in music, specifically piano and/or voice, with emphasis on Hawaiian music, opera, or musical theater. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a serious commitment to music training, a career in music, and a dedication to artistic excellence. Along with their application, they must submit a personal essay describing their background, musical accomplishments, and educational goals. Residency in Hawaii is not required. Finalists are asked to present an informal musical performance or (for non-Hawaii residents) to provide a video of their performance. Preference is given to Native Hawaiians (descendants of the aboriginal inhabitants of Hawaiian Islands prior to 1778).
