Purpose

To provide financial assistance for professional preparation after high school to Alaska Natives who are original enrollees of Eklunta, Inc. and their lineal descendants.

Eligibility

This program is open to Alaska Natives enrollees to Eklunta, Inc. under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 and their lineal descendants. 

Applicants must be :

  1. accepted or enrolled full time in an accredited or otherwise approved postsecondary college or university
  2. enrolled part or full time in technical skills education program

 

They must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Along with their application, they must submit a 500-word statement on their educational and career goals and how they are contributing, or planning to contribute, to a positive Alaska Native community. 

Selection is based on:

  1. that statement
  2. academic achievement
  3. rigor of course work or degree program
  4. student financial contribution
  5. financial need
  6. grade level
  7. community service

The stipend is $1,000 per year

This program was established in 2008. Funds are provided equally by Eklunta, Inc. and the CIRI Foundation.

Deadline

Applications for scholarships (for academic study) must be submitted by May of each year.  Applications for grants (for vocational or technical programs) are due by March, June, September, or November each year.
