Purpose

To provide financial assistance to Native American and other minority members of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) who are interested in working on an undergraduate or graduate degree in health information administration or technology.

Eligibility

This program is open to AHIMIA members who are enrolled in a health information administration or health information technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. 

Applicants must:

  • be minorities
  • be working on and undergraduate  or graduate degree on at least a half-time basis
  • have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • U.S. citizenship is required

Selection is based (in order of importance) on

  • GPA and academic achievement
  • volunteer and work experience
  • commitment to health information management profession
  • suitability to the health information management profession
  • quality and suitability of references provided
  • clarity of application
