Purpose

To provide financial assistance to Alaska Natives with ties to the Koniag region who have demonstrated leadership and plan to attend college in any state.

Eligibility

This program is open to college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are Alaska Native shareholders of the Koniag region or descindants of those original enrollees. Applicants be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited college, university, or vocational school in any state.

They must have

  • a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • be able to demonstrate leadership in school, community, athletics, church, or Native culture activities.

Along with their application, they must submit an essay on

  • what they expect to accomplish in the next 10 years
  • how the scholarship will help them achieve that goal
  • how they plan to give back to the community.

Financial data 

The stipend is $5,000. Funds are sent directly to the recipients school and may be used for tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and meals.

Duration 

1 year; may be renewed up to 2 additional years

Provided the recipient maintains

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • participates in school, community, or church activities.

Number awarded 

1 each year.

Deadline 

August of each year.
