Purpose

To provide funds to African American and Native American Minnesota students who are associated with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) activities.

Eligibility

This program is open to residents of Minnesota and students attending a Minnesota educational institution who are African American or Native American. Applicants must be self-identified as GLBT or from a GLBT family.

They may be attending or planning to attend

    • trade school
    • technical college
    • college
    • or university (as an undergraduate or graduate student).

 

Preference is given to graduating high school seniors.

Selection is based on the applicant's

    • 1) affirmation of GLBT identity or commitment to GLBT communities
    • 2) evidence of experience and skills in service and leadership
    • 3) evidence of service and leadership in GLBT communities, including serving
        • as a role model
        • mentor
        • and/or adviser.

 

Financial data

The stipend is $2,000. Funds must be used for tuition, books, fees, or dissertation expenses.

Duration 

1 year.
