To recognize and reward minority and other students at any level who submit outstanding abstracts for presentation during Digestive Disease Week (DDW).


This program is open to students who are in

  • high school 
  • undergraduate
  • premedical
  • pre-doctoral
  • medical 

Medical residents (up to and including postgraduate year 3) who have preformed original research related to gastroenterology and hepatology.

Postdoctoral fellows, technicians, visiting scientists, and M.D. research fellows are not eligible.

Applicants must submit an abstract on their research and much be the designated presenter or first author of the abstract. They must be sponsored by member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).  Travel awards are presented to authors of outstanding abstracts to enable them to attend DDW.  After presentation of papers at DDW, the most outstanding abstracts receive prizes. 

Selection is based on

  • novelty
  • significance of the proposal
  • clarity of the abstract
  • contribution of the student

Women and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply.
