To provide financial assistance to Native American and other underrepresented minority high school seniors and community college transfer students interested in studying engineering at designated universities.


This program is open to high school seniors and community college transfer students interested in enrolling as a full-time, first-year student at a partnership university of the HP (Hewlett-Packard) Scholars program (San Jose State University, University of California at Los Angeles, North Carolina A&T University, Morgan State University, or University of Washington).

Applicants must be interested in majoring in


        • computer science
        • computer engineering
        • or electrical engineering. 


They should also be willing to work as a summer intern at HP facility in


        • California
        • Colorado
        • Idaho
        • Oregon
        • Texas
        • Washington. 


Along with their application, they must submit a 2-page autobiographical narrative that includes their


        • educational objectives
        • reasons they are applying for this scholarship
        • and their financial need


Selection is based on


      • that statement
      • academic achievement
      • financial need
      • family educational history (preference is give to first generation students)
      • letters of recommendation
      • and demonstrated interest in 
            • mathematics
            • science
            • and engineering


Financial data

The stipend is $3,000 per year.

Scholars also receive an Hp Productivity Package, which includes


        • an HP laptop
        • printer
        • and PDA. 


The total value of the award, including the scholarship stipend, the Productivity Package, and the internships, is more than $40,000.


4 years of study, including 3 summers for internships.
