Purpose

To provide financial assistance to American Indians interested in preparing for a career in nursing.

Eligibility

This program is open to American Indians who are high school graduates (or the equivalent) and enrolled full time in nursing program at an accredited school.

Applicants must be

 

      • within 2 years of completing the course for which the scholarship is being given
      • have maintained the scholastic average required by their school
      • be recommended by their counselor or school officer
      • not be receiving an Indian Health Service Scholarship
      • have a career goal directly related to the needs of the Indian people
      • and be in financial need

 

Fianancial data

The stipend is $1,000 per semester ($2,000 per year). Funds are to be used for tuition or fees. The money is sent directly to the recipient's school.

Duration

1 semester; those students who continue to meet the eligibility requirements and have been recommended for continuation are given priority consideration for additional periods of support.
