Purpose - To provide financial assistance to Alaska Natives from the Bering Straits region who are interested in attending college in any state.
Eligibility - This program is open to tribally enrolled members of Native villages in the Bering Straits region of Alaska. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program at a college or university in any state. They must submit verification of tribal membership, documentation of financial need, official transcripts, 2 letters of recommendation. and a letter of intent providing the name of the school they wish to attend, their class standing,, their major area of study, their projected graduation date, and their educational and personal goals.
Financial data - The stipend is $1,500 per semester.
Duration - 1 semester; may be renewed if the recipient remains enrolled full time with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Number awarded - Varies each year.
Deadline - July of each year for fall semester or quarter; December of each year for spring semester or winter quarter; February of each year for spring quarter; April of each year for summer semester or quarter.
