Blue Creek Bay Room

Call to order:
12:05pm by Heather Erikson

Minutes Approval:
Alex Harris moved to approve minutes from previous meeting
Second by Nancy Edwards

Featured Department:
Financial Aid - Victor Cazun introduced his staff and talked briefly about what each person does. He also gave some stats on how much money Financial Aid has given out so far (over $11 million given out so far).

Open Discussion:
Professional Development
Brainstormed ideas of what could be offered for a possible Professional Development day for staff. Ideas included technical training, closing offices for a day, team building, etc.
Laura Humphreys will join Heather Erikson and Shelly Cobetto on a committee to draft a proposal for a Staff Professional Development Day.

Staff Committee Update
Over 30 responses – THANK YOU…but we still need more participants. If interested, please contact Gary Coffman. Gary will send out committee assignments next week.

Reports:
Nancy Edwards gave Senate report: Senate considered the Prior Felonies policy for students. Eric Murray attended the Senate meeting to take questions on the policy. After discussion, Eric will write another draft to address Senate concerns.
Nancy Edwards gave the Board of Trustees report: There was no new business, there was no old business. Ed Corridor was discussed. Special session of board was held last week to give authorization to sign on paperwork for purchase of Ed Corridor property.

Good of the Order
Shelley Cobetto spoke for the Library. The Library and the Library computer lab would like to propose that they close on Saturdays. They are only open four hours on Saturday’s now, and the majority of users are local community members, not students. They are open 7 days a week now, and the bulk of their weekend traffic is on Sundays. If you have concerns, please contact Shelley Cobetto. Denise Clark is taking it to Faculty Assembly as well. ASNIC will also be spoken to about it.

Dean Bennett asked is Staff Assembly had ever sought to find out how many staff members don’t have access to computers or the internet on a daily basis. Dean was concerned that with all the automation and ‘paper-reduction’ driving North Idaho College to put more info on the web only, that there might be a significant number of staff members who can’t easily access the information/do not know how to access the information.

Announcements
Laura Humphreys announced that the College Relations style guide and graphics guide are now on-line at www.nic.edu/branding

Alex Harris announced that volunteers are needed to join the contests for the 75th Anniversary BBQ on 9/18. Contests include pie-eating, goldfish eating, and trike races.
