OARS started in 2005 as a way to provide incoming students with the information they needed to get off to a good start at North Idaho College. Served 1100 students Fall 2005, Served 1600 students Fall 2008. In 3 hour session, students are shown how to use NICOnline, assigned to and meet with an advisor, register for courses and get student ID card. Because O.A.R.S takes place while campus is live, it really a team effort across the campus
Guest Speaker: John Martin, VP for Community Relations and Marketing
John explained what he and his office is responsible for, from being the spokesperson for NIC to Idaho legislative liaison to creating/broadcasting our branding strategy and getting the North Idaho College brand uniform and known in the public.
Reports
Senate - Nancy Edwards: Next meeting: 3/19/09. Continuing with readings of proposed elimination of Sick Leave Bank, and policy on Student initiated withdrawals.
Board of Trustees – Gary Coffman: No report
Meet and Confer – Gary Coffman for Alex Harris: Dr. Bell will meet with Met and Confer next week to discuss recommendations including proposed health insurance changes. Gary encouraged staff to attend one of the informational meetings on 3/16 or 3/17 where the health insurance carriers will be present to answer questions.
Announcements
Prof. Dev Day: A professional development day has been proposed and will be scheduled in place of Curriculum Day in December 2009. This day will involve campus being closed and all staff and faculty will attend various workshops and hear keynote speakers on different professional development topics. All-Class Reunion: Hosted by the NIC Alumni Association and Athletics. Scheduled for April 24-26. Postcards will be sent in mail and information will be in Weeks Worth. Questions: Sara Fladeland, Alumni Relations
Student Art Gallery: In honor of NIC’s 75th Anniversary, it features art topics from each of the 75 years of NIC’s existence. Stop in at Boswell Hall to see it! Questions: Derinda Moerer, Communications, Fine Arts and Humanities
