NIC results from Doane Open Wrestling Tournament
The North Idaho College wrestling team went 33-8 at the Doane Open in Crete, Nebraska over Dec. 4. Of the wins, 23 were bonus point victories; 14 of those by fall, six by technical fall, and three by major decision.
Brant Porter (133) went 6-0 and took first place in his weight class, while teammate Hunter Suter (197) went 4-0, also placing first. Jett Strickenberger (125) placed second by going 5-1, while Izzy Tubera (133), Sam Silveria (141), and Ledger Petracek (165) reached their match limit tying for third; all going 5-1 for the weekend.
“I am extremely impressed with the way our team wrestled this past weekend,” said Interim Head Coach Chase Clasen. “Everyone worked hard and looked to pin their opponent. Our guys who lost in the semi-finals were able to keep their composure and looked to get the next best place—and did so in a dominant fashion.”
The Cardinals travel to Portland, Oregon for competition on Sunday, Dec. 12 to take on Corban University and Southern Oregon University. They will begin at 11 a.m.
