Does Ethics Matter in Science and Technology?

Thubten Chodron
Venerable Thubten Chodron, an American nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, will present “Compassion + Technology” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5. This virtual event, which is free and open to the public, will be presented via Zoom at https://nic.zoom.us/j/83755363207.
Are technology and compassion mutually exclusive? How can we get in touch with the values that we care about and have them inform how we use technology as individuals and as a society? Join Ven. Chodron as she speaks about how we can bring compassion to bear when engaging with technology so that it serves humanity, and not the other way around.
Ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun in 1977, Ven. Chodron is an author, teacher, and the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey in Newport, Washington. Sravasti Abbey is one of the first Tibetan Buddhist training monasteries for Westerners in the U.S., and holds gender equality, social engagement and care for the environment amongst its core values.
Ven. Chodron teaches worldwide and is known for her practical and humorous explanations of how to apply Buddhist teachings in daily life. She is also involved in prison outreach and interfaith dialogue. She has published many books on Buddhist philosophy and meditation, and is currently assisting His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the writing and publication of The Library of Wisdom and Compassion, a multi-volume series of teachings on the Buddhist path.
