Two North Idaho College students earned gold medals at the Idaho SkillsUSA competition on April 1 at the College of Western Idaho on in Nampa.

Neil Huber of Rathdrum and Bryce Tellinghusen of Spokane Valley took first place in auto refinishing technology and in collision repair technology, respectively, and have earned their spots in the national SkillsUSA Championships June 20 to 24 in Atlanta, Georgia.

NIC student Evangelos Istkos of Missoula also placed at the state SkillsUSA competition, winning the third-place bronze medal in collision repair technology.

SkillsUSA is a global career and technical education program that hosts annual competitions at the state, national and international levels.

“We’re excited to see what our students can do at nationals again this year,” NIC Autobody and Paint Technology Associate Professor Cal DeHaas said. “SkillsUSA is an extremely competitive environment at all levels, and it brings out the best in our students.”

In 2021, NIC students Ashleigh Anderson and Logan Farley advanced to the championships, and Anderson took first place to become the national champion in the automotive refinishing technology category.
