A Legacy for Education
John and Terri Goedde
John and Terri Goedde believe strongly in public education and value the many opportunities provided to students through community colleges.
This passion for education began early for John. Originally from Chelan, Washington, John’s mother was a school teacher. He received his bachelor’s degree from Washington State University, and moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1972. John served three years as a Trustee for the Coeur d’Alene school district and was elected to the Idaho Senate from 2000 – 2014. As a state Senator, John served on the Education Committee for 14 years, chairing the committee for ten of those years. He worked with Rep. Wayne Meyer to pass a bill in support of dual credit education that allows students to take college courses while in high school. John recently retired from the NIC Foundation Board of Directors after 18 years of service.“North Idaho College is a huge asset to the community,” John says. “NIC is an avenue for the arts and a stepping stone for kids starting out and adults coming back to education. NIC blends job training with higher education and gives students an opportunity for affordable, local education.”
Terri agrees with John. She moved to the area in 1991, and she and John married in 2008. “Education is important to me,” Terri says. She attended the University of San Diego and went on to have a career as a flight attendant with United Airlines for over 33 years. “I especially am excited about dual credit opportunities for high school students.”
“NIC provides academic and technical training,” John adds. “The business community is crying out for skilled employees. Businesses can work with NIC to develop programs to train their employees through the Workforce Training Center.”
John and Terri have chosen to continue their support of North Idaho College in future years through their estate plan. “We are blessed and we want to share,” they explain. “We think of the parable of the loaves and fishes. We want to give what we can and see it multiplied to help others.”
John and Terri Goedde have joined an honorable circle of North Idaho College supporters as members of the NIC Foundation’s Legacy Society. Membership in the Legacy Society is as simple as designating the North Idaho College Foundation, Inc. as a beneficiary of your will, trust, life insurance, or retirement account.
