Past Resolutions
October 9, 2020
North Idaho College, as an institution, has not taken any stance on Black Lives Matter (BLM). Further, the college’s Diversity Council has not developed or held any events in support of the movement, nor has it supported BLM through college resources. The Diversity Council does, however, support constitutionally-protected gatherings that bring greater awareness to social issues faced by minority populations in both rural and urban communities. This is the stance noted in the Council’s statement this summer. The Council will continue to serve as an ally, advocate, and resource for all students and for the community. We encourage community participation in constructive conversations about diversity and inclusion. Our programming and events are free and open to the public. Please visit our Facebook events page to see how you can be an engaged participant in these conversations.

Reaffirming Advocacy & Learning in Support of Social Justice & Marginalized Communities
The Diversity Council supports the college’s mission and dedication to the core value of diversity by providing resources, programming, and dialogue that help build cultural competence, raise global awareness, and support social justice and ethical responsibility. As such, the council supports local and national gatherings that give voice to the systemic and structural issues embedded in societal inequities, from #BlackLivesMatter to #WaterIsLife. It admonishes acts of racism, structural inequality, and discrimination. As our society contends with immense challenges, our campus maintains its promise to be an arena of critical inquiry, engaged discourse, and thoughtful difference. We welcome and value empathetic perspectives and worldviews that uphold inclusive values, advocate for a polyvocal community, and reinforce the commitment we have to the original inhabitants of our region. Our campus, community, and country are founded upon the plurality of thought and experiences that strengthen and build, not isolate or divide.
