Earn while you Learn in this accelerated program for current health care professionals who are entering into a paid apprenticeship. Achieve clinical and administrative skills necessary for this high-demand career. North Idaho College-Workforce Training Center provides the related knowledge and skill instruction in a partnership with your employer who provides on-the-job training as a medical assistant apprentice.

The program is designed to accommodate the working apprentice with online instruction and relevant labs that meets in the evenings or on Saturdays. 

Upcoming MAA program: July 31st, 2023 - April 16, 2024

Prerequisite:

Must be employed in a medical facility and have someone available to be a preceptor. If you're currently not employed with a medical facility, a list of employers is available upon request. Must be 18 years or older to sit for the NHA CCMA exam.

NIC offers two different medical assistant programs. What is the difference between the Medical Assistant Certificate or Associate Degree program and the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program? You decide which option is best for you!

  Apprenticeship Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science Degree
Prerequisite Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Phlebotomy Technician. Documented employment and/or endorsement as an apprentice at a local healthcare site. Human Biology, Computation Skills for Allied Health, English Composition
Format 8.5 Months (760 hours) 11 Months for Technical Certificate or
20 months for Associate of Applied Science Degree
Program Length Online, Lab, Apprenticeship
(Lab meets once or twice per week=8 hours)
Online, Lab, Clinical Externship
(Lab meets once per week=8 hours and optional open labs)
 Credits Non-Credit, Non-Transferrable 47-62 Credits (may transfer some credits)
Certification Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
through National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants CAAHEP/MAERB Accredited
Tuiton $3,995.00 (includes textbooks, national
exam prep materials and CCMA exam)
$5,193.00 tuition & fees for Technical Certificate
$7,900.00 tuition & fees for Applied Science Degree
$900.00 books (approximate costs)
