Advising Assignments and Caseloads
Student Success Advisors in Advising Services specialize in advising new students pursuing an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree. With the support of select faculty advisors, the four Student Success Advisors in Advising Services provide initial advising for nearly every new degree-seeking student pursuing a transfer program at North Idaho College.
Student Success Advisors specialize their advising expertise according to interest area, as follows:
Arts, Communication, and Humanities - Brenna Dockter (bdockter@nic.edu)
Business Administration and Management - Brenna Dockter (bdockter@nic.edu)
Healthcare (primarily pre-nursing) - Jeff Davis (jsdavis@nic.edu)
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - DeAnn Johnson (drjohnson@nic.edu)
Social Sciences and Human Services - Marita DeBoard (mcdeboard@nic.edu)
Generally, new students are scheduled to meet with a Student Success Advisor whose expertise aligns with the student's interest. Students who are exploring their academic and professional interests could initially meet with any advisor skilled in working with new students.
Students are encouraged to work with Career Services, instructors, and their advisor to identify an interest area early in their academic careers. Student Success Advisors coordinate with the students, interest area faculty advisors, and division chairs to assign students to faculty advisors whose interests and expertise best match the needs and interests of students. Typically students are assigned to faculty who teach within the student's chosen interest area. While students may be reassigned to a new advisor who better matches their interest area at any point, reassignments are generally made by Advising Services by week 4 in the fall and spring semesters.
