Benefits at North Idaho College
A comprehensive and affordable benefits package is available to employees in benefits eligible positions. Our benefits can also be enrolled in as ala carte options.
Below is an overview of just some of the benefits offered to eligible employees at North Idaho College.
Please note: Not all positions at North Idaho College are benefits eligible. Please see the job announcement of the position you are interested in to see if it is eligible for benefits.Some benefits eligible positions that are less than 100% of full-time do not accrue vacation or accrue at a decreased level.
Benefits start the first day of the month after your hire date.
Holidays
Benefits eligible employees receive 14 paid holidays per year. (Head Start employees receive limited holidays)
Vacation leave
Vacation leave accrual is available for benefits eligible staff positions only (not available for faculty, and some Head Start and Children's Center positions).
Benefits eligible faculty positions receive two personal days each year. (not accrued)

Sick leave
Benefits eligible staff: Sick leave accrual is based on hours or days actually worked each pay period. An employee who works 80 hours in a pay period (two weeks), earns up to 12 days per year.
Benefits eligible staff who work less than 100% of full-time (less than 40 hours per week) will accrue less sick leave per pay period.
Faculty: 9 days per year for full-time faculty and prorated for other benefit eligible positions. See policy 3.04.01 for additional information.

Retirement
Per Idaho statute, employees in benefited positions at NIC are required to participate in a retirement plan according to their classification as follows.
- PERSI (Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho)
Classified staff (hourly) only. Employee contributes 7.16% of earnings pretax and North Idaho College contributes 11.29%. - ORP - Options are TIAA or Corebridge (formerly AIG) – A defined contribution plan
Administrative, Faculty, and Professional (salaried) staff only.Employee contributes 6.97% of all earnings, withheld-pretax, and North Idaho College contributes 11.84% (11.19% directly into employee account, .65% paid to PERSI for the sick leave entitlement program).

Medical

- Life Insurance: NIC pays 100% of the premium. Life insurance for employees worth two times their annual salary

- Long Term Disability: NIC pays 100% of the premium 67% of employee’s salary at time of disability
Employee Wellness Program
Earn up to $2000 into an HRA for participating in wellness activities, like getting annual screenings, being a non-smoker, and other wellness related opportunities.

Professional Development
NIC is committed to the professional development of the employees who carry out the mission of the college. To that end, the college has put in place funding assistance programs that are designed to help our employees meet and exceed their professional development goals.Encouraging and supporting our employees’ professional development allows NIC to continue to provide a high level of service and quality programs to the communities we serve. These funding assistance programs are available to employees who have been employed in a benefit-eligible position continuously for at least one year, and are not in grant funded positions.
Tuition Waivers
For benefits eligible employees tuition is waived, up to 8 credits per semester. Eligible spouses and dependents may have up to 12 credits waived. Employees and dependents are responsible for any course fees and materials.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides short-term, confidential counseling for you and your family at no out-of-pocket expense to you. The EAP also offers financial and health tips plus many other topics.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care
Optional account set-up by employee to set aside money pre-tax each pay period to be used for medical expenses and dependent care.
