Does NIC have any online classes or programs?
North Idaho College has many online class options. You can search for current online course options here.
Taking an online class is very different from taking a face-to-face class. We encourage you to take the Online Readiness Quiz to help determine if online classes are a good fit for you. You can access the Readiness Quiz by going to www.nic.edu/elearningstudents.

How and when do I register for courses?

For freshman, transfer, and returning students, once you have been accepted you will need to sign up for an Advising & Registration appointment (www.nic.edu/nextstep) in order to meet with an Advisor and register for classes.

For non-degree and continuing students, check out the college calendar for registration dates as well as your Registration Start Time in Student Planning within your MyNIC account. The Registrar's Office will also email your Cardinal Mail account when your registration time is available.

How do I apply for financial aid?
Your first step is to go to fafsa.ed.gov.
1. Request a FSA ID
2. Fill out the FAFSA (NIC school code: 001623)
3. Use the Aid Application Checklist to track your progress through the financial aid process.
Visit the Financial Aid website for detailed steps & additional information on scholarships available.

How do I apply for housing?
You can apply for the Residence Hall once you have applied to NIC. Residence Hall applications can be requested through the Residence Hall website under "Apply for Housing".

How do I establish residency?
The full process for establishing Idaho residency is listed at the Admissions web page. If you have further questions please contact the Cardinal Central (208-769-3311 or CardinalCentral@nic.edu)

How long will it take to process my application?
Once we have received your application, it generally takes about three to five business days to process. During peak times, it may take at least a week.
You will be notified of your admission status via U.S. Postal Service.

How do I apply for scholarships?
Please visit the Financial Aid and Scholarships website to see a list of departmental scholarships.

What programs does NIC offer?
A comprehensive list of academic and technical programs at North Idaho College can be found online here.

What else do I need to submit to complete my admission application?
Once we have received & begun processing your application you will receive your student ID number and instructions to access your MyNIC account. You can track documents that have been received or needed by logging onto your MyNIC account and checking your Self Service. Once you log into your MyNIC account, select Self Service under the Services area. Once you are within Self Service, on the left-hand side panel, select the person avatar icon (User Options) and select My Documents. If the Status column says Not Received for the Requesting Office of Admissions, we will need that document for your file.
Your application checklist will be updated after the admissions item in question has been completely processed, not the day it is received. If you have sent an admissions item and the item does not have a “received” date this could be due to normal processing time. Please allow up to one week to process and update application materials.

Will all my credits from another college transfer to NIC?
Once you have applied to North Idaho College and have had your official transcripts sent, your transcript is reviewed by the Admissions Office to identify equivalent courses. You will receive an email to your Cardinal Mail once a transcript has been evaluated. You may view your transfer equivalency report on your MyNIC account by searching “Transfer Credits”.

Visit the Transfer Portal to review how your courses transfer to NIC. The transfer portal is an unofficial aid for students, all official evaluations require official transcripts.

When do I find out what financial aid I have been awarded?
The Financial Aid Office will send you notification that an award letter is ready via your Cardinal Mail account.

How do I request my NIC transcripts?
Unofficial transcripts are available at no charge through Student Planning within your MyNIC. You can order your official transcripts here.
For additional information on how to request your North Idaho College transcripts, visit the Registrar’s Office website.
