COVID-19 and Financial Aid

North Idaho College signed and returned the Certification and Agreement to the Department of Education and has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

North Idaho College awarded Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) emergency relief grants to eligible students for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Semesters. This funding may be used to cover any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to COVID-19, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, child care, etc. Some awards may have been changed for application or institutional error.

Awarded to all eligible students excluding: dual credit students, audit students, recipients of a full employee tuition waiver, senior students, and/or concurrently enrolled students.

All funding has been fully expended as of June 9th, 2023.

Summer 2023 Semester:

Funding was awarded to 168 students, totaling $48,924, to individuals who were Pell eligible and enrolled as of June 13^th.

Spring 2023 Semester:

Funding was awarded to 2461 students, totaling $2,156,132.05, to individuals who met the eligibility requirements on January 25th, 2023 for the Spring 2023 Semester. The awards went to all eligible students:
- 870 Pell-Eligible students received $1500 grants
- 176 Non-Pell Eligible students with unmet need and accepted subsidized loans received $985.40 grants
- 1436 Non-Pell-Eligible students with or without unmet need received $460 grants
  *May be less if the total award exceeds the student’s cost of attendance
- 8 additional students with extenuating need were referred from the Center for New Directions and were awarded by application. Awards ranged from $140 to $1,500, for a total of $5,880.

Fall 2022 Semester:

Funding was not awarded for the Fall 2022 Semester

Spring 2022 Semester:

Funding was awarded to 2657 students, totaling $1,106,698.50, to individuals who met the eligibility requirements in two rounds for the Spring 2022 Semester. The first round of awards went to all eligible students:
- 1156 Pell-Eligible and students with unmet need received $500 grants
- 1493 Non-Pell-Eligible students without unmet need received $250 grants
- The grants ranged from $50 to $5004 based on provided documentation and individual awarding eligibility
- Awarded to 210 students, totaling $158,437.50

The second round of awards was through an additional application that allowed all eligible students to answer a questionnaire indicating their extenuating circumstances related to COVID-19 and submit supporting documentation to apply for additional funding on a case-by-case basis. * Workforce Training Center students and Dual Credit students who still owed a balance after Fast Forward funding was applied to tuition and fees were allowed to apply.

Fall 2021 Semester:

Funding was awarded to 3417 students, totaling $1,129,550.00, to individuals who met the eligibility requirements in two rounds for the Fall 2021 Semester: The first round of awards went to all eligible students:
- May be less if the total award exceeds the student’s cost of attendance

1107 Pell-Eligible students received $500 grants
2310 Non-Pell-Eligible students received $250 grants
The second round of awards was through an additional application that allowed all eligible students to answer a questionnaire indicating their extenuating circumstances related to COVID-19 and submit supporting documentation to apply for additional funding on a case-by-case basis. * Workforce Training Center students and Dual Credit students who still owed a balance after Fast Forward funding was applied to tuition and fees were allowed to apply.

Summer 2021 Session:

Funding was awarded to 822 students, totaling $190,441.20, to individuals who met the eligibility requirements for the Summer 2021 Session:
- 244 Pell-Eligible students received $300 grants
- 575 Non-Pell-Eligible students received $200 grants
  - May be less if the total award exceeds the student’s cost of attendance

Spring 2021 Semester:

Funding was awarded to 2807 students, totaling $954,250.00, to individuals who met the eligibility requirements in two rounds for the Spring 2021 Semester:
- 1011 Pell-Eligible students received $500 grants
- 1796 Non-Pell-Eligible students received $250 grants
- The grants ranged from $80 to $3000 based on provided documentation and individual awarding eligibility
- Awarded to 181 students, totaling $75,733

The first round of awards went to all eligible students:
The second round of awards was through an additional application that allowed all eligible students to answer a questionnaire indicating their extenuating circumstances related to COVID-19 and submit supporting documentation to apply for additional funding on a case-by-case basis. * Workforce Training Center students and Dual Credit students who still owed a balance after Fast Forward funding was applied to tuition and fees were allowed to apply.

Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 Semesters:

This notice serves as an acknowledgment that North Idaho College signed and returned the certification and agreement form and that the College has used the funds to provide the mandated amount of at least 50% of the emergency financial aid grants to students.

NIC received and awarded under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) student portion, as of October 28, 2020, a total of $1,080,939.

2144 is the estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive an emergency financial aid grant. 1811 students received an emergency financial aid grant. (this confuses me on the current page, why didn’t all the eligible students get a grant?)
How the institution determined which students did, or will receive emergency financial aid grants and how much funding they did, or will receive:
- The grant was established to help cover needs related to the transition to online learning in the Spring 2020 term.
- Awards ranged from $80-$1820 and were calculated using a pre-determined formula based on how students answered the questions on the application.

Spring 2020 Semester: Title IV eligible students enrolled in at least 6 credits as of April 2, 2020, received an emergency grant of $400.00.
Fall 2020 Semester: Notification was sent to students who appeared to meet the criteria to receive an emergency grant. This notification encouraged students to fill out an application to determine eligibility.
