1. Accreditation
   Continue working with the president and the college to maintain good standing.
2. Community Engagement
   Advocate for the College’s reputation as an economic engine for the community.
   1. Conduct collaborative meetings with key stakeholders.
   2. Participate in community chambers and other economic development groups.
3. Monitoring and Oversight 
   Continue to monitor the College’s progress toward meeting the community’s needs and the accomplishment of established goals.
1. Engage at regular board meetings with college leadership through President’s report, recurring reports, and other topical information.
4. Educational Quality and Student Success 
   Ensure, monitor, and support academic excellence, student success, and a campus climate that welcomes the free expression of diverse thoughts by employees and students.
1. Periodically conduct board meetings at outreach centers.
2. Participate in facilitated tours of College infrastructure.
3. Receive regular updates on enrollment, student persistence, and success metrics.
5. Financial Responsibility
   ensure a sustainable economic future for NIC through policy, monitoring, and adoption of a strategy to maintain accreditation and financial stability for the community college
1. Utilize a Board Finance Subcommittee for input to the full Board and College on budget assumptions and facilities planning.
2. Assure resources are available to support planning
3. Engage in the budget process.
6. Board Effectiveness
   Model best practices of board governance.
1. Engage in professional development (e.g. attending a national conference, participation in board retreats)
2. Attend graduation ceremonies and other College events.
3. Advocate for the College with local, state, and national lawmakers.
4. Report to fellow Board members on topics of interest.
7. Strategic Vision 
   Support the College’s future vision through strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation.
1. Monitor implementation of the plan.
2. Engage in Facilities Master Planning process including long term budget considerations.
