North Idaho College has named Tom Greene as its chief communications and government relations officer following a national search. Greene has served in the role on an interim basis since 2023 and will continue leading NIC’s communications, marketing and government relations efforts.

Greene has worked at NIC for more than 15 years in progressively senior communications roles. As interim chief communications and government relations officer, he directed integrated marketing campaigns that helped contribute to a 17% overall enrollment growth from Fall 2023 to Fall 2025, and a 37% increase in new student enrollment.

“Tom Greene has played a critical role in helping North Idaho College rebuild momentum, strengthen public trust and communicate our mission to students, employees and the broader community,” NIC President Nick Swayne said. “His deep understanding of the college, extensive communications experience and strong relationships throughout the region make him exceptionally well-suited to continue leading these efforts.”

As chief communications and government relations officer, Greene serves as the college’s official spokesperson and oversees institutional messaging across media and other communication platforms. He also advises executive leadership on communications strategy, reputational risk and public affairs matters, while maintaining relationships with elected officials, community leaders and regional partners throughout North Idaho.

Prior to serving in the interim executive role, Greene worked as NIC’s marketing and communications coordinator for the Workforce Training Center from 2020 to 2023 and as communications coordinator from 2011 to 2020. In those positions, he led communications strategies supporting enrollment, retention, workforce training and fundraising initiatives, including the college’s Building the Future Campaign that helped fund the NIC Parker Technical Education Center.

Before joining NIC, Greene worked in journalism and media leadership roles throughout the Northwest, including positions with the Coeur d’Alene Press. He holds a master of arts in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University and a bachelor of arts in communication arts from Lewis-Clark State College.
