Moody’s revises NIC outlook to positive

Moody’s Ratings revised North Idaho College’s outlook from stable to positive while affirming the college’s Baa1 issuer and revenue bond ratings on Sept. 9.
Moody’s cited continued stability in NIC’s governance, particularly the Board of Trustees, as a key factor in the outlook revision. The agency also cited NIC retaining its accreditation and being removed from probation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities on Feb. 9, 2026.
“I’m incredibly proud of the continued work and effort of all those involved with the college,” NIC Board Chair Tarie Zimmerman said. “Each and every day board members, employees, students and community members work hard to make NIC a better place for generations to come.”
The agency noted NIC’s continued enrollment growth and its renewed ability to pursue strategic initiatives focused on increasing student demand. NIC’s enrollment has increased by more than 9% over the same time last year, marking seven consecutive semesters of enrollment growth.
Moody’s said sustained enrollment growth and continued progress in operating performance could strengthen NIC’s credit profile over time.
“We’re very happy to receive this acknowledgement from Moody’s,” NIC Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs Sarah Garcia said. “A lot of work has gone into building stability across the institution. It’s encouraging to see that work recognized, and we’re committed to continuing that progress.”
