How to Access Your Online Writing Center Session

Our online sessions are conducted via live video chat.

Approximately five minutes before your appointment is scheduled, go to the WCOnline calendar, where you first scheduled your session. Click on your appointment and you will get a pop-up window. Halfway down that pop-up window you will see “Click here to start or join a session;” click there. The NIC WCOnline page will open and that is where you’ll meet with your consultant.

When the WCOnline page opens, you may see a pop-up window requesting permission to use your camera and microphone. Please allow access. On the far left of the screen, you will see two video boxes, one for your video and one for your consultant’s video. In the center of the screen is a large text box with instructions and information; this is where you will import your paper. At the far right of the screen is a text chat space. Once your session is open, you have the option to mute your audio and/or video, and your consultant can provide you with additional information.

If you do not have audio/video capability, you can still have an online session. There is a text chat window at far right of the screen, and a larger window where you can upload your paper for your consultant to review. Your consultant will provide additional information and walk you through the process.

You can go through these steps at any time in advance of your appointment if you would like to familiarize yourself with the environment. In addition, your session will remain available until the end of the semester. You can go through these same steps at any time after your appointment to review your conversation and your consultant’s notes.
