Learn the fundamentals of metalworking and proper techniques while gaining hands-on opportunities to hone your skills to help you succeed and advance your welding career.

Introduction to TIG Welding

This course is designed to introduce you to the basic skills of gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding. Learn: the principle set-up of TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding equipment; proper tungsten selection and shielding gases for this welding process; and the correct welding parameters for the material to be welded. Learn how to weld in different positions for a variety of weld joints using steel and aluminum. Have your own TIG welder and would like to learn on it? Bring it along!

Introduction to MIG Welding

Gain fundamental skills in structural steel welding in this introductory course. You'll learn techniques to safely begin practicing MIG (wire feed) welding. If you have your own wire feed welder that you'd like to learn on, you're welcome to bring it along!

Introduction to Stick Welding

Gain fundamental skills in structural steel welding in this introductory course. You'll learn techniques to begin practicing Stick (SMAW) welding safely. By the end of this course, students should come away with a basic knowledge of how to set up and operate an AC/DC welding machine with both 7018 and 6010 welding rods running flat “structural” welds on mild steel. Have your own stick welder that you'd like to learn on? You're welcome to bring it along!

Introduction to Torch Cutting

Whether you're new to oxy-acetylene torch cutting or just need some extra practice, this course will cover the basics, giving you ample practice time to develop your skills. You'll also have an opportunity to try plasma torch cutting. Join us as we strive to help enhance your skills while having a lot of fun. If you already have your own oxy/fuel setup and/or plasma cutter and want to learn to set it up and practice on your own equipment, feel free to bring it along!

Blueprint Reading for Welders

This online welding course will teach you how to read, use, and make blueprints. You will discuss different types of welds, weld joints, and weld symbols. The course will also touch on advanced shop math and measurement skills.

Intro to Laser Engraving

This hands-on introductory course provides students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in laser engraving and cutting technologies used in manufacturing, prototyping, small business production, and maker-space environments. Students will learn laser safety procedures, machine setup, material selection, file preparation, and basic design workflow using industry-standard software such as LightBurn or similar vector-based programs. Topics include raster vs. vector engraving, speed and power settings, maintenance basics, troubleshooting, and production efficiency. Students will complete hands-on projects using materials such as wood, acrylic, leather, and coated metals while developing skills in precision engraving, customization, and workflow planning. Upon completion, students will be able to safely operate a laser engraver and produce basic commercial and creative projects.

Applied Welding and Project Fabrication

This four-week course introduces Students to Advanced MIG and TIG welding through hands on fabrication projects. Topics include project planning, material selection, tool requirements, shop layout and setup, fabrication techniques, welding operations and producing finished metal projects using industry standard practices. Have your own TIG or MIG welder and want to learn on it? Bring it along! This course requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools. You are welcome to bring your own, or checkout some or all of the items for use in class.

This class does not provide welding certification. It is intended only as a hands-on introduction to the welding field.

Thermal Cutting Processes

This course provides competency-based instruction in industrial thermal cutting processes used in welding, fabrication, and metalworking industries. Students receive both theoretical instruction and supervised laboratory practice in plasma arc cutting, carbon arc cutting (air carbon arc gouging), and oxy-acetylene cutting systems.

Instruction emphasizes safe work practices, equipment setup and operation, and the selection of appropriate cutting methods based on material type, thickness, and job requirements. Students develop entry-level occupational skills aligned with industry standards and workplace expectations.

This class does not provide welding certification. It is intended only as a hands-on introduction to the welding field.
