The NIC Workforce Training Center offers a federally and state-approved Related Instruction (RI) program for Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Apprentices. This program provides the 144 hours of instruction required annually by the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL). This apprenticeship is two to three years in length.
Registration opens in July, Classes September - May, and 100% attendance for all face-to-face sessions is mandatory.
This RI program in conjunction with 3,000 to 6,000 hours of paid on-the-job training combine to meet Idaho Apprenticeship requirements of the Aviation Industry and Qualify the apprentice to test with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).
Program Requirements
To become an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Apprentice in Idaho, individuals must:
- Be at least 18 years old to register.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Work under the supervision of a Journeyman.

- Program Cost: $1,850 per year.
