Safety and Resources

Enjoying the outdoors safely requires a degree of preparation and knowledge. Here are some safety tips to take into consideration while enjoying all North Idaho and the inland northwest have to offer.

Snow

A tricky thing about getting into popular mountain lakes and other mountain destinations in the spring is the low snow level.

If you choose to attempt a snow route, plan ahead and know that there are considerably higher risks associated with winter travel. NIC’s Outdoor Pursuits staff are glad to talk you through those considerations.

Water Temperature

Remember that water temperatures can be chilly out on the lake and rivers, and some trails require creek crossings. Have a plan to stay warm before soaking yourself in the backcountry.
