The NIC Workforce Training Center offers a federally and state-approved Related Instruction program for Aircraft Mechanic (A&P) Apprentices. This two to three year program offers 160 hours of related instruction.
In person classes run from July through May.
This Related Instruction program in conjunction with 3,000 to 6,000 hours of paid on-the-job training combine to meet Idaho Apprenticeship requirements of the Aviation Industry and Qualify the apprentice to test with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). While this program does not place apprentices into jobs, you can find helpful job search ideas in the Next Steps section.
Program Requirements
To become an Aircraft Mechanic (A&P) Apprentice in Idaho, individuals must:
- Be at least 17 years old to register, but must be 18 years old to take the FAA exams.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Work under the supervision of a Certified Mechanic.
Apprenticeship Program Tuition and Financial Aid
- Program Cost: $1,950 per year.
- Includes: Instruction, course textbooks, and materials.

Tuition Payment Options
- Full payment required at registration OR
- Enrollment in a payment plan. Requires a $350 deposit(refundable if cancelled within the refund window) and $60 set up fee (non-refundable).

Employment in the Aviation Industry:
Most apprentices secure employment with a contractor before beginning their Related Instruction (RI); however, this is not required to enroll in Aircraft Mechanic (A&P) apprenticeship course at NIC.
